The great hacks of 2015 and forecasts for 2016
As expected the last year, the number of cyber attacks continues to rise, and 2015 was another busy year in piracy.
Here are some facts to start a member of Kaspersky:
- In 2015, 58% of business computers have blocked at least one malware attack.
- Kaspersky Lab has detected more than 50,000 ransomwares on computers in companies. This is twice as much as last year.
- 753,684 ransomwares were detected on particular computers.
- 34% of home computers have been dealing with a web attack.
Let us now return to the big events this year:
A Jeep hacked
In late July, we learn that hackers can take control of a Jeep, and in particular brakes.
A vulnerability was present in the UConnect component for making calls, control navigation ... etc. Hackers were able to retrieve the IP address of the car and control it. Custom code implemented in the firmware of the system allowed to take direct control of the engine and brakes.
Result: Fiat Chrysler had to recall 1.4 million cars.
Soon after, we learn that Jeeps are not the only vehicles concerned. Corvettes of the brakes can also be controlled with a simple text message.
The problem is a USB dongle that plugs on the car dashboard in order to make it "smarter".
The Ashley Madison website hacked
Piracy extramarital dating website Ashley Madison was highly publicized. A group of hackers calling itself "The Impact Team" has stolen in July 25GB site members related data.
The impact of piracy was very important, especially on the part of members whose information was exposed.So much so that suicides related to the case were identified.
1 billion smartphones affected by a flaw in Android
A vulnerability called "Stage fright" was found in the mobile operating system Android, and then publicly announced July 27, 2015.
About 95% of Android smartphones are affected by this issue, nearly 1 billion devices.
By exploiting this vulnerability, hackers can run malicious code remotely and read the files on the device seamlessly. It was enough to send a specially crafted MMS to the victim.
With such an impact, it is one of the biggest security holes encountered in mobile systems.
Forecast for 2016
Here now predictions about cyber threats coming in 2016 (compiled from several antivirus vendors reports).
Ransomwares attacks will continue
The ransomwares are very interesting malware to hackers because they relate much money for a low cost of creation.
Not only banks and other large institutions are targets, but also mobile systems and Linux as is already the case.
Also imagine in the not so distant future ransomwares who will take possession of connected objects: pay ransom or you do not use your fridge, your connected TV ... etc.
Attacks on connected devices will grow
To make the transition to the previous point, the connected objects will increasingly fill our homes in the coming years, and new cyber attacks will of course target these devices. The problems of connected objects (low resources, geographical distribution) go play for the pirates.
More attacks against financial institutions
The number of attacks against financial institutions will certainly increase in 2016. Not only will intensify the attacks but cybercriminals also will employ new techniques. This includes for example data manipulation on trading platforms.
More flights to personal data and private information publications
The hacker Sony and more recently Ashley Madison which cybercriminals share data public way membersare booming.
The public humiliation, extortion and opportunistic hackers do unfortunately just beginning.
Social engineering, again and again
Attacks exploiting psychology are among those that are most effective. The technical means of protecting data is usually functional, but the human being and for his still small compared to the great pirates strung manipulations.

New safety standards, and further cooperation with government agencies
